Scientific Conference ’Potential and Effects of Biomass Energy Use in the Republic of Serbia’

The two-day scientific conference titled ’Potential and Effects of Biomass Energy Use in the Republic of Serbia’, which is to open at the SASA Grand Hall, on Wednesday, 2 November, at 10 a.m., is part of a series of scientific conferences dedicated to the renewal and expansion of knowledge necessary for qualified overview and deliberation on directions of Serbian energy sector development.

Former decisions on the development of the Serbian energy sector and investments in alternative resources have brought about base resource neglect and a considerable decrease in production. Humongous export expenses lead to the depression of the Serbian energy sector, endangering the population and industry, and putting the country into an uncertain and inferior position. In Serbia, wind and solar power plants have been exempt from numerous duties which are in force across EU countries, and investors enjoy privileges while generating revenue. Furthermore, it has been demonstrated in practice that renewable energy is insufficient, well under the expected or required amounts, and cannot have a substantial effect on import dependency. The organizers perceive the need for a productive dialogue and believe that the communication among consumers, industry, business and state should be furthered. The conference is dedicated to the use of biomass energy in the energy sector.  The authors and participants will try to establish the positive and negative features of the use of biomass in the energy sector, and to make an estimate of the achievable annual production of electricity and thermal energy from biomass.
