Scientific Conference ‘Two Centuries of Đuro Daničić’

As part of the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Đuro Daničić, a distinguished Serbian philologist, the scientific conference ‘Two Centuries of Đuro Daničić’ will be held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts on 27 and 28 November. The opening ceremony will take place on Thursday, 27 November, at the SASA Grand Hall, at 10 a.m.

Versatile and tireless scholar in the fields of synchrony and diachrony of the Serbian language, Đuro Daničić marked the Serbian philology of the 19th century. As a close associate of Vuk Karadžić, Daničić left an indelible mark on the reform and formation of the Serbian literary language. He devoted himself to the study of Serbian linguistic and literary past, historical grammar, lexicography, translation, and published editions of old manuscripts, thereby laying the foundations of a number of philological disciplines in our country.

Conference participants will shed light on Daničić’s scholarly legacy and underscore his contributions to various disciplines through the lens of the age in which he created and the subsequent development of Serbian philology.
