Scientific conference ’Viticulture and Winemaking in the Central Balkans (XV-XIX centuries)

A three-day international scientific conference ’Viticulture and Winemaking in the Central Balkans (XV-XIX centuries)’ opens on Thursday, 4 September, at 3.30 p.m. at the SASA Hall 2. This event is part of the planned activities within the eponymous project, carried out under the PRIZMA programme, funded by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia. The project is jointly realised by the Institute for Balkan Studies of SASA, the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade and the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad.

The conference will feature the most recent findings on the role of viticulture and winemaking in the economic, social, and cultural life of the Central Balkan population during the Ottoman Empire’s rule, including the latest research results produced by the project team. More than twenty scholars from the USA, Spain, Greece, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia have registered for participation in the conference. All papers delivered at the event will be published in a dedicated edition.
