Statement of the SASA Executive Board

The Executive Board of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts expresses deep concern over the dramatic increase of tensions on the societal and political landscape of Serbia. The SASA Executive Board reaffirms the positions expressed by several departments and SASA boards, including the Executive Board itself, that students, as well as all citizens in our country, have a natural and legitimate right to advocate for their future, for a better functioning of the state and institutions and a fairer society. The Executive Board strongly supports students’ efforts to peacefully continue their fight, including organizing protests and expressing dissatisfaction in ways that uphold academic dignity and the principles of civilized discourse. The Executive Board calls on all interested parties on the political and public scene to completely respect and preserve this spirit of students’ protest in the upcoming events.
