THIS TOO IS SERBIA

MAY 29 – JUNE 15, 2018

The exhibition of travel photographs, This Too Is Serbia, by Zoran Cvetković, MA, organized by the SASA Board for Rural Issues, visually emphasizes and presents beautiful and difficult themes. The beautiful themes are presented through photographs from trips to remote villages and rural environments, with the intention of arousing optimism with attractive and yet unknown images. Through photographs of public and private facilities, the selection of difficult themes and motifs is supposed to provide an insight into the degree of the preservation or devastation of the heritage of vernacular architecture and to call upon society to take action. In addition to photographs of landscapes and vernacular architecture, visitors also have the opportunity to see photographs of the people the author met on his travels through Serbian villages.

According to Academician Dragan Škorić, the SASA Board for Rural Issues has been dealing with the problems facing Serbian villages for six years now through scientific and specialist gatherings and roundtables, discussing the major issues and putting forward proposals and solutions.

“Due to his love for country life and the beauty of the rural environment and intent on preserving the memory of deserted houses and estates, Zoran Cvetković, travelling through the rugged landscapes of Serbia, took over 10,000 photographs dedicated to the deterioration of our villages. We have selected a certain number of photographs from this huge collection together and prepared an exhibition entitled This Too is Serbia. It is our wish to acquaint the public at large with the decline of the peasantry and deterioration of villages, material goods and, actually, our beautiful Serbia,” Academician Škorić explains.
