3 – 17 September 2024

Author: Jelena Manojlović
Organization: Museum of the History of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Belgrade

The exhibition titled ‘Titans of Pharmacy: Searching for the Beginning, Splendor and Passing Hours’ honours academicians Stevan Jakovljević and Jovan Tucakov, two extraordinary people who left an indelible mark on the development of pharmacy studies in Serbia.

Academician Stevan Jakovljević was more renowned as a writer, with only a few people knowing him as the first head of the Department of Pharmacy and the first professor of botany at the Faculty of Pharmacy. His legacy includes a substantial body of scientific work.  A species of silicate algae even bears his name.

Academician Jovan Tucakov, the founder of the Josif Pančić Institute, and the first professor of pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, is widely known as the best general and scientific connoisseur of herbs. His book, “Lečenje biljem” (Healing with Herbs), is a household name, known even to children from family libraries.

The Exhibition will feature archival materials, personal items, audio recordings and photographs from various private collections of these two great figures.
