Organizer: Museum for the History of Pharmacy, Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Belgrade

The exhibition ’The Greatest Figures in Pharmacy: I am Searching for a Beginning, Splendor and Hours that Ceased’, dedicated to academicians Stevan Jakovljević and Jovan Tucakov, is on display from 1 July.

Academician Stevan Jakovljević was more renowned as a writer, while only a handful of people know that he was the first head of the Department of Pharmacy and the first professor of botany at the Faculty of Pharmacy. His significant scientific work remains and even one silica alga contains his name in its name.

Academician of medical sciences Jovan Tucakov, a founder of ’Dr Josif Pančić’ Institute and the first professor of pharmacognosy at the Faculty of Pharmacy is still recognized today as the best professional and scientific authority on medicinal plants.

The exhibition sheds light on archives, personal items, audio recordings and photographs from various private collections. The exhibition author intends to familiarize the general public with the great significance of two exceptional personalities for the development of pharmacy studies in Serbia.
