Forum on Roma Studies „Institutional Context in Serbia and Contemporary Art of the Roma People”

The Forum on Roma Studies, titled ”Institutional Context in Serbia and Contemporary Art of the Roma People”, will take place on Monday, March 10, at 1 p.m. in SASA Hall 2.

In recent years, Serbian institutions have shown increasing openness to showcasing contemporary art by Roma artists—both those from Serbia and internationally recognized figures. Artists such as Zoran Tairović, Sead Kazanxhiu, Nino Nihad Pušija, Delaine Le Bas, Małgorzata Mirga-Tas, and Jelena Savić have participated in major cultural initiatives, including the October Salon, Novi Sad European Capital of Culture, and exhibitions at the Cvijeta Zuzorić Art Pavilion and the ULUS Gallery.

Organized by the SASA Board for the Study of Life and Customs of the Roma, this forum will provide a platform for reflection and review of emerging trends in Roma contemporary art. Particular attention will be given to the 2024 October Salon award presented to the Karavan Association, which was recognized for its outstanding artistic engagement in preserving the musical heritage of the Romani settlement Bair in Valjevo.
