Career
He completed postdoctoral training at the Institute for Biological Research ‘Siniša Stanković’ and the Institute of Microbiology and Immunology, MFUB (1984–1987), followed by additional postdoctoral training at the Department of Immunology, Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, California, USA. Assistant professor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York (1990-1996); where he was also head of the Laboratory for T Lymphocyte Development and director of the Core Flow Cytometry Facility. During this period, he was also an assistant professor at Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences (CUGMS), New York, USA; associate professor and head of the the same organizational units at MSKCC (1996-2001); an associate professor at CUGMS, Cornell University; professor in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon, (2001-2008); a senior scientist at the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (OHSU) and the Pathobiology Division of the Oregon National Primate Research Centre; the Elizabeth Bowman Professor and a Chair of the Department of Immunobiology at the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Tucson (MFUA-T) since 2008; co-director of the University of Arizona Centre on Aging (MFUA-T) and a professor of Medicine, Nutritional Sciences, Genetics, and Neuroscience; a scientific fellow at the BY05 Institute, the Arizona Cancer Centre, and the University of Arizona Arthritis Centre; director of the Aegis Consortium for a Pandemic-Free Future at the University of Arizona (since 2020); visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade (since 2003), and the Faculty of Medicine, University of Kragujevac (2012–2018).
