Panel ’The Demography of Election Results’

The panel ’The Demography of Election Results’ will be held on Friday, 2 October, at 11 a.m. in the SASA Grand Hall.

The Board for the Study of Population of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is organising a panel titled ’The Demography of Election Results’, which includes two introductory lectures that will analyse, from a comparative perspective, the key demographic factors shaping contemporary electoral processes in Serbia and Slovenia – two European countries with relatively different trajectories of socio-political development, but remarkably similar demographic trends.

Since the topic of the panel draws directly on the key concepts, methods and objectives of electoral demography, the different perspectives of the moderator and three invited panellists are expected to provide a broader discussion on the impact of population structures, migration, urbanisation and regional specificities on voter behaviour, the stability of political preferences and election results.

The panel is not designed to approach elections as a purely political phenomenon, but rather as a demographically structured process, which allows for a clearer understanding of the impact of long-term demographic trends on voter turnout, changes in party support, fragmentation of the political space, and the electoral process as a whole.
