Scientific Conference ‘Engraving Universal Values: Prometheus Symposium on Digital Epigraphy and Cultural Heritage Representation’

The International scientific conference titled ‘Engraving Universal Values: Prometheus Symposium on Digital Epigraphy and Heritage Representation’ opens on Thursday, 18 September, at 11 o’clock, at the SASA Hall 2. It is organised as part of the international PROMETHEUS – Promoting Universal Values through Digital Epigraphy and Cultural Heritage (CREA–CULT–2023–COOP) project and is funded within the European Commission’s programme Creative Europe – Culture.

The Institute of Balkan Studies of SASA is one of the partners on the project, along with the Archaeological Museum of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, which serves as the project coordinator, the Faculty of Philosophy at the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, The St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, and the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Belgrade.

The symposium aims to explore the role epigraphic monuments play in the communication of universal values, and to analyse contemporary methods of digital humanities in the study, preservation and presentation of cultural heritage.

The participation of researchers and experts from several European countries is expected, primarily from the project partner countries (Serbia, North Macedonia, Bulgaria), along with guests from Austria, Italy and other countries. Conference papers will address the topics related to Greek and Roman epigraphy, digital epigraphy, cultural heritage management and contemporary approaches to the presentation and dissemination of epigraphic material.
