The 200th Anniversary of the Birth of Academician Konstantin Cukić

A scientific conference to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Academician Konstantin Cukić was held on 26 March, at the Grand Hall of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Konstantin Cukić was the first Serbian economist. He received his doctorate from Heidelberg University and served as a professor and rector of the Belgrade Lyceum. He also served as a minister of finance and acting minister of education in the Government of Prince Mihailo. He was a full member and president of the Society of Serbian Letters.

The event was organised by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Serbian Fiscal Society.

On the occasion of this jubilee, the Serbian Fiscal Society published an updated second edition of Konstantin Cukić’s textbook titled ’Finances’, which was first published in 1853. During the conference, this textbook was discussed, as well as Academician Cukić’s book from 1862 titled ’Economic Policy’, which was presented to the public in its updated form two years ago.

Academician Konstantin Cukić’s life and work were discussed by Academician Pavle Petrović, SASA Corresponding Member Boris Milosavljević, SASA Corresponding Member Milojko Arsić, Professor Emeritus Dejan Popović, Boško Mijatović, PhD, Professor Gordana Ilić Popović, PhD, and Professor Ekkehart Reimer, PhD.
